Ranked #1 in the Nation by USASBE as the Top Specialty Program for Life Sciences Entrepreneurship ANNOUNCEMENT - January 17, 2004
USF ENTREPRENEURSHIP PROGRAM RANKED #1 IN THE NATION
Dr. William Marshall Jr., Jason Liu, President Judy Genshaft, Dr. Michael Fountain, Stephen Budd

The United States Association for Small Business and Entrepreneurship (USASBE), the oldest, largest, and premier organization in the United States devoted to entrepreneurship education and development has recognized the Life Sciences Entrepreneurship program at the University of South Florida as the number one Specialty Entrepreneurship program in the country.  The intensive competition with 26 other major universities began in October 2003 and culminated with finalist presentations in Dallas, Texas on January 16, 2004.  The three finalist institutions were USF, Georgia Institute of Technology, and the University of Hawaii.  All three institutions presented their programs before a distinguished panel of judges for final selection as the premier program in the country.  Dr. Michael Fountain, Director of the Center for Entrepreneurship and the John & Beverley Grant Endowed Chair in Entrepreneurship made the presentation on behalf of USF.

This first place award recognizes the innovative and nationally benchmarked program in Life Sciences Entrepreneurship developed at the University of South Florida in partnership with the Ewing Marion Kauffman Foundation.  This national designation as the top specialty program in entrepreneurship has come as the result of the strong collaboration developed among the Center for Entrepreneurship, the Colleges of Business Administration, Engineering, Health Sciences, Arts & Sciences, and the Honors College.  Dr. Fountain commented: “This top national ranking for the Center for Entrepreneurship’s program in Life Sciences Entrepreneurship at USF could not have happened without the encouragement, support, and on-going commitment of President Genshaft, Interim Provost Khator, Deans Anderson and Martin-Vega, Associate Dean Sanberg and the Center’s Board of Advisors.  These combined efforts have enabled us to reach our goal to create the nation’s premier program for excellence in Life Sciences Entrepreneurship.”

This number one ranking recognizes the strength of the USF Life Sciences Entrepreneurship program, its research, and its education and training programs for students.  In addition, USASBE commended the USF Life Science Entrepreneurship program as a national model that is exportable to other universities across the country.  The 2004 top ranking for USF follows Stanford University’s number one ranking in 2003.
